Chapora Fort is situated in Bardez taluka, north Goa district. It is near of the Chapora river bank where Chapora River dropped into Arabian Sea. Chapora Fort has hundreds years old history. It was presented when Portuguese came in Goa in 1510. This fort was changed to several hands on different ruler which includes Muslim, Marathas and Portuguese. Current fort was built in 1717 by Maharaja of Sawantwadi which was old enemy of the Portuguese ruler. Fort also has a old church which is dedicated to St. Anthony.
How can get:- Tourists can easily access chapora fort via road, rail and air. Tourist can get it via National highway – 17 which connected Goa to Maharashtra and Karnataka states. It is just 22 kilometers far from Panaji city which is the capital of the Goa. It is just 52.5 kilometers far from Margao city which is main railway stations of the Goa. Margao railway station connects Goa to all India major cities via train. It is just 46 kilometers distance from Dabolim airport.
